  i do not know if this misquote has been discussed here already.. new catholic encyclopedia says this about jw:.

  "judge" rutherford introduced important changes in the witnesses' creed and transformed the congregational structure of the sect as it was under "pastor" russell into a rigid theocracy.

  the third leader, "brother" nathan h. knorr, gradually replaced the offensive convert-making tactics of the rutherford era by suave manners that have gained the witnesses their current reputation as one of the best-behaved groups in the world.

  New Light - Two Sticks in Ezekiel - July 2016 Watchtower

  ezekiel 37:15-17 prophesies about two sticks being joined together to become 1. one stick represented the two tribe kingdom of judah and the other stick represented the 10 tribe of israel (ephraim).

  the article explains how the coming together of these two sticks meant the reuniting of these tribes in 537 bce.the modern day fulfillment was previously taught to mean that the anointed had once again come together in unity in these last days.the july watchtower now explains that one stick, the stick of judah, represents the anointed and the other stick, the stick of ephraim, represents the other sheep.

  they further explain that since 1919 god's people have gradually reunited to become one flock.they are now saying that the other sheep are represented by 10 tribes of israel.

  The memorial songs sucked.

  i don't know who the idiots are that write, or approve these songs, ( the creative team of lett and tomo??

  ) but they suck!!

  there is a line in the first song ( # 147 ) that blatantly contradicts the wtbts dogma of the heavenly calling being an invitation as opposed to a sure thing.

  Neither "immortality" nor "resurrection" were mentioned. How does a talk purported to be about the significance of Jesus sacrifice fail to mention these elements? A truly wasted opportunity; most of the time was spent urging the crowd to let the "emblems" pass them by.

  Gorby, I'm repeating this from an earlier similar thread, but it bears mention here: According to an interesting article in the Italian ex-jw website Geova.org, the scriptures suggest that the bread passed around at the last supper was not the unleavened matzoh of the Jewish Passover (azuma in Greek) but rather the common everyday generic leavened loaf (arton) . This is true in all three Gospel references to the Last Supper of Matthew 26:26, Mark 14:22 and Luke 22:19. It's the same word employed in Matthew 4:4 when Satan urged Jesus to turn stones into bread (arton) and Matt. 7:9 when God would never give a child asking for bread a stone. Moreover there's no reference to the use of wine, in the Exodus Passover. There's no mention in the Gospels of the traditional lamb and bitter greens in the Last Supper either.

  when i grew up in the 1980's -90's it was rare to see a faithful slaves picture in 10 years of watchtowers.

  everything was anonymous.

  no one really knew there names except for the "holy oricle" fred franz.. now they are full on t.v stars with there own show.

  Excellent point, Dunedain, one I've often thought about making but never got around to it. The old guard were dyed-in-the-wool Bethelites from their youth, shaped by and accustomed to the pervasive, rigorous work ethic and Spartan lifestyle of the place. Even the best of them were subject to censure or tongue lashings by Rutherford or any lesser taskmaster on the slightest pretext. I recall one old-timer recounted how the the young Knorr worked in the factory like he was driven. In contrast, this current lot is exactly as Dunedain described above, soft and used to being cosseted and fawned over, admired by the locals.

  many posters quote geoffrey jackson as saying " it would be presumptuous" to say that the gb is jehovah's sole spokesperson on earth.. what he actually said was that "it would seem to be quite presumptuous".

  this is actually very clever, as adding "seem" to the sentence leaves the possibility that it isn't presumptuous to call themselves "jehovah's sole channel".

  (at least in their eyes).
